Chicago Bears Fun Trivia Facts:
Originally this team was called the Chicago Staleys, named after their team sponsor which was the Staley Starch Company. Not a very exciting sounding team name. In 1922, George Halas bought the team and changed the name to the Bears. The reasoning behind this was that football players are larger in stature than baseball players. Since Chicago had the Cubs for baseball, something bigger than a cub is a bear, thus you end up with the Chicago Bears for the name of the football team. George "Papa Bear" Halas was involved with the Bears for 64 years as a player, owner, coach, manager, etc. He wore every hat imaginable.
The most famous Chicago Bears football game was in 1940 during the NFL championship. They thoroughly stomped the Washington Redskins by a mile with a score of 73-0. Ouch!
